Custom Sound 2x12 speaker cab fitted with Celestion Greenback 75w speakers, revAMPlified

I converted this from a pair of PA speakers to a cabinet suitable for an amplifier head.

The brief from a local studio was to find a pair of Celestion Greenbacks and I came across these which were sent to Celestion to be re-coned back in the 1980's so the markings DON'T match up with the chassis stamps. They came back as 8ohm 75w and the owner wasn't happy with the sound on their Vox AC30 so they were consigned to dry storage.

This has a single 1/4" jack and has 2x 8ohm Celestion Greenbacks which I've wired to a switch so they can be 16ohms (in series) or 4ohms (in parallel) using heavy duty wire.

The speakers are marked as follows:

Celestion 12" model G12M T1221, with date code DC21R: April 21st 1970. (reconed & relabeled to 75w 8ohms)

Celestion 12" model G12M T1221, with date code DC28R: April 28th 1970. (reconed & relabeled to 75w 8ohms)

There's loads of info about Celestion speakers on the web, here's what I found. The cones are marked 444 which could be Kert Mueller 55Hz but they have silver coil covers so they might be the large rib later Kurt Mueller cone. The closest modern equivalent is probably the Celestion Creamback G12H-75 or G12T-75 as used in JCM900.

The cabinet is in average gigged condition with a few little dings and scratches on the vinyl and the chromed corner protectors are a little rusty but are riveted on and still do the job. It's got a handle on the top/side and I've fitted new rubber feet so it can be stood on end or on the side.

It was used in a studio until recently with a Marshall VS100H 100w head and used in several recordings.
