Muse Research Receptor — First Generation, VST Hardware Player, Very Good Condition, Rack Ears Included
The Receptor is a 2U rack-mountable module that runs standard Windows VST instruments and effects — combining the flexibility of software with the immediacy and durability of hardware. First released in 2005, it made it possible to run virtual instruments and plug-in effects outside of a computer entirely — dispensing with the fiddly AC adaptors, MIDI interfaces, and vibration sensitivity of laptops, while fitting securely into a rack for stage use and touring.
Audio I/O consists of two pairs of balanced ¼" jacks for analogue plus S/PDIF digital I/O, with 24-bit converters operating at 44.1, 48, or 96kHz. It can also be clocked from an external digital source. The first-gen Receptor runs a streamlined Linux-based OS and boots in seconds — even after a hard power loss.
This is the unit that touring professionals from Trans-Siberian Orchestra to Tori Amos used to replace laptop rigs on the road.
