Up for sale is a genuinely rare piece of drum-building history: a first generation DW X-Shell Maple Custom kit, hand-built in 2010 at DW's Oxnard, California factory in a stunning speciality pearlescent white to charcoal fade finish.

Why X-Shell matters
X-Shell was one of DW's most radical shell innovations, introduced in 2008 and only available for a short window through the Collector's Series custom shop. Instead of laminating plies in the conventional way, each veneer is cross-laminated at a 45-degree angle, creating a diagonal "X" pattern. The result, confirmed by DW themselves, is added shell strength and noticeably richer, deeper low-end response. It's a construction method DW has since moved away from in favour of other techniques, which is exactly why kits like this one rarely come up for sale. If you know your shell tech, you'll know how special this is.

Condition: Excellent throughout. Cared for and stored properly since purchase. This is not a gigged-to-death kit, it has been used on 2 album recordings + a handful of large gigs.

Please note, NOT included: snare drum, ride cymbal, second crash cymbal, drum stool. The 12" tom does not come with a case.
