Dating from the circa 1974–1981 JMP era, this is a genuine British-built, all-valve Marshall with decades of history written across its cabinet — and, most importantly, it has recently been professionally serviced by Marshall themselves, including the replacement of three valves.

The result?

It sounds absolutely phenomenal.

Huge, warm, powerful and unmistakably Marshall.

 THE JMP SUPER BASS

The words “SUPER BASS 100W” appear proudly across the original-style gold rear panel — but don’t make the mistake of thinking this legendary amplifier is of interest only to bass players.

Marshall Super Bass heads have long been prized by guitarists as well as bassists for their enormous clean headroom, rich low-end response and wonderfully open valve character.

Plug a guitar into one and there is nowhere for the sound to hide.

No modelling.

No digital processing.

No presets.

No menu screens.

Just valves, transformers and 100 watts of old-school Marshall authority.

The classic four-input arrangement allows access to the two channels, while the wonderfully simple control layout gives you:

It is beautifully simple — and brutally effective.

Anyone familiar with vintage Marshall valve amplification will understand that the number printed on the rear panel only tells part of the story.

This amplifier is officially designated:

MK II SUPER BASS 100W

However, this particular amplifier has been measured/reported at approximately 160 watts RMS when driven.

And you can believe it.

The sheer scale and authority of the sound from this head is extraordinary.

There is tremendous headroom, enormous low-end weight and that unmistakable harmonic richness that makes a large vintage valve Marshall feel almost alive beneath your fingers.

This is not a polite amplifier.

It was built in an era when a 100-watt Marshall was expected to fill a stage.

And it still can.

 SERVICED BY MARSHALL

This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of this particular amplifier.

Rather than simply switching on a decades-old valve head and offering it for sale, we entrusted it to Marshall for professional servicing and inspection.

During that service:

Three valves were replaced.

The amplifier has subsequently been tested and is operating superbly.

For an amplifier approaching approximately half a century in age, we consider its recent return to Marshall themselves an important part of its story.

The people whose name appears across the front have had it back through their doors.

And now it is ready for its next custodian.

 THE CONDITION — AND WHY WE WOULDN’T HIDE IT

Please look carefully through the photographs.

This Marshall has lived.

There are marks, scuffs, scratches, edge wear, corner wear and general cosmetic signs of use and age throughout the head.

The black covering carries numerous signs of its working life.

The corners and fittings show age.

The gold panels display patina and wear.

The handle hardware shows its years.

There are areas where the covering has been knocked, rubbed or marked.

We have deliberately photographed all of it.

We don’t believe a vintage amplifier like this should have its history airbrushed away.

This isn’t being represented as mint.

It isn’t being represented as a museum piece.

And it certainly isn’t being represented as something it isn’t.

It’s an honest vintage Marshall.

Its cosmetic wear has been earned over decades.

And somehow, on an amplifier like this, it just looks right.

Within Diminished 5th, we are fortunate to handle some exceptional Marshall amplification.

Some pieces are extraordinary because they have seemingly escaped time.

Others are extraordinary because they haven’t.

This is the latter.

Where a preserved collector’s amplifier tells you how carefully it has been kept, this Super Bass tells you something entirely different:

Somebody wanted to play it.

And once you’ve heard it, you understand why.

Its appeal isn’t pristine Tolex.

Its appeal is what happens when you plug into it.

There is something wonderfully physical about a big vintage Marshall.

Notes don’t simply come out of the speaker.

They have weight.

Chords become enormous.

The bottom end has authority.

The midrange has presence.

And as the amplifier begins to work, that unmistakable valve richness starts to emerge.

This particular example sounds exceptionally good following its Marshall service.

It has the sort of sound that reminds you why these amplifiers became icons in the first place.
