Mahar's Vintage Guitars is a brick and mortar and e-commerce shop, serving the planet from Chico, California since 1995. I started out in retail as a 24 year old Chico State recording arts student, opening a store in Chico called Sound Source. I was an early entrant in online music sales. Early success online and at vintage guitars shows enlightened me to the fact that I didn't need a huge store and staff to operate a successful business. In 2005, Sound Source closed and I opened as Mahar's Vintage Guitars. The shop is now open by appointment, and we are shipping world class gear around the globe.
Shipping Policy
Signature is always required on all shipments! Any obstacles to getting a signature on the buyer's end that result in an item return will be the responsibility of the buyer. We cannot and will not change a shipment that is already underway - make sure your address is correct! If an item is returned, extra shipping charges will occur. We ship Monday through Friday. Most orders go out same-day, though some may take up to three days to pack and ship. I UPS and USPS depending on the size of the item and the cost. I spent years selling on eBay and my own website and have shipped hundreds of guitars, basses and amps to countries around the globe. You can rest assured that I carefully pack valuable vintage guitars, basses and amps and know the best shipping carriers to choose. Most international shipments will use UPS as the reliability of the postal service is spotty.

General Terms
Items must be returned in original, as-shipped condition with all original packaging and no signs of use. Buyer assumes responsibility for all return shipping costs unless the item was not received as described.

Vintage and used items may be returned within 3 days of receipt. New items may be returned within 7 days of receipt.
EligibilityÂ
Returns are accepted only when an item differs materially from its description. If we have misrepresented the originality or condition of an instrument, we will review the discrepancy and, if confirmed, provide a prepaid return label at no cost to you. We photograph all items and packing before shipment and test every instrument before it ships.
Returns are not accepted based on personal preference, sonic taste, or buyer's remorse. If you have specific concerns about an instrument prior to purchase, please contact us before completing the transaction — arrangements may be possible before shipment.
Subjective ReturnsÂ
In cases where a subjective return is approved in advance, the buyer is responsible for all shipping costs in both directions, original payment processing fees incurred by Mahar's Vintage Guitars, and a restocking fee of 10% of the original purchase price.
How to Start a ReturnÂ
Contact us at [email protected] to request a return authorization. Do not ship items back without prior approval — unauthorized returns will not be accepted.
Once approved, you will receive a return shipping label and instructions. Items must be shipped within 48 hours of receiving the label, packed as securely as when originally shipped. All original accessories, tags, and packaging must be included. Items will be inspected upon arrival before any refund is processed.
Shipping Issues &Â Damages
Inspect your order immediately upon receipt. If an item arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact us right away at [email protected] so we can make it right.
Important: Retain all original packaging for a minimum of 48 hours after delivery. Packaging is required for any shipping insurance claim. Failure to retain packaging will void buyer shipping damage claims.
