Welcome to Crow Creek Fiddles! All new instruments under the Crow Creek Fiddles brand are sold exclusively from this shop. By selling on Reverb, both you as a buyer, and I as a builder/seller can be confident in the safety of the transaction. I am the builder and only seller of these instruments. I do not have any Dealers or Retailers of them. If you see brand new Crow Creek Fiddles instruments sold anywhere else, it is a scam.

I began building fiddles in 2019. I had always enjoyed the sound of a fiddle in Country or Bluegrass music so I decided to get one and learn to play, but I wanted one that was high quality not some Chinese cheapy. I chose a beautiful dark colored antique one. I admired it every day considering how proud it's maker must have been. I had some spare time and decided I wanted to build a fiddle. I purchased some books and DVDs made by some respected luthiers and was quite surprised at how complex the process was. To build one from scratch takes about 200 hours. Good quality materials are about $650 per fiddle. I soon realized why the good ones cost so much.

I build all of my violins right in my home in rural Phillipsburg Kansas along the Crow Creek. I use the highest quality materials available; spruce taken from the high altitudes of the Alps for an even consistent grain, beautiful maple which is lightweight and strong, and the highest grade available of African ebony taken from the center of the trees for dark color and light weight. The wood must be lightweight and graduated to exact specifications thinner is better for sound but too thin compromises strength. I also apply a high-quality hand rubbed oil varnish to ensure excellent acoustic properties. The varnish process is very complex requiring several different ground coats followed by 4-8 thin varnish coats which require U.V. light to cure. I use professional handmade strings imported from Europe on most of my instruments.

With all it takes to build a quality handmade instrument the price is outside of many people's budget therefore I sought a way to offer a cheaper model to fit this need. In addition to my completely handmade instruments, I offer some that have been made overseas in places like China, or higher quality ones from Poland. I buy them "in the white" which means they are built but have not been varnished, setup, or adjusted. I then finish them and offer them for sale. This allows customers a quality instrument at an affordable price.

Many people don't know that a Fiddle and a Violin are the same instrument it is just a matter of how you play it. I offer intermediate fiddles all the way up to the professional grade of instruments you hear on the radio. Each one is unique in color and design.
