About this listing
For sale is an excellent condition all original 1964 Vox AC30. The amp is in excellent cosmetic condition for its age, having just slight tolex wear, and grill cloth checking (both pictured). The amp is in perfect functioning condition, having been recently tested thoroughly. While the pictured serial number confirms the amp’s age, this one has a particularly fun heritage. The amp was built by an original Vox factory worker who built the amp for himself when he retired, who’s grandson I acquired the amp from. Saying this is an immaculately built amplifier would be an understatement. I am selling the amp as I just don’t use enough to justify the space it and the included road case take up, and would love this cool amp and all of its historical mojo to go to someone who’ll move some air with it!This 1964 Vox AC30 is a 30-watt all-tube guitar amplifier. Tonally speaking, these original top boost models are known for their bright, ringing "chime" and punchy natural overdrive that defined the sounds such as the 1960s British Invasion. While it is a bright amp, when describing the AC30 tone I tend to think of the sparkling, yet velvety hifh-frequency response that lets individual notes and high strings ring out clearly without being painfully bright. The amp is driven by four EL84 power tubes, five 12AX7 preamp tubes (one additional for top boost models), plus one 12AU7 for the vibrato/tremolo circuit. Additionally the amp contains its original Jennings/Vox speakers. The amp has three channels: Normal, and Vib-Trem (vibrato and tremolo) inputs, plus the added Top Boost. Also to note is the Vox tone knob on AC30s, a master high-frequency roll-off that works in reverse (turning it up removes high-end shrillness to smooth out the tone).Includes road case! Available for pickup in Reno, NV, also willing to ship if buyer doesn’t get sticker shock when told the price to ship a 70ish pound amp with a heavy duty road case.
