The Digitech Whammy has gone through 7 different incarnations because it is one of the most unique, well–loved pedals useful across practically all genres. The current models — Whammy 5 and the Whammy DT — prove to be the most versatile and high–fidelity versions of the pedal yet, with the line’s popularity showing no signs of slowing down.
To celebrate the possibilities of the Whammy, Zebrahead guitarist Dan Palmer swung by the Reverb studio to show off some of his favorite features. Perhaps to no one’s surprise, one of Dan’s favorite features is that you can use it to play different notes while drinking a beer. He chose the delicious Daisy Cutter Pale Ale brewed by our hometown faves, Half Acre.
With his Whammy pedal, Dan makes his notes jump around all over the place while his mustache stays perfectly still, more or less.
Dan ran us through some basics, like using the Whammy to shift octaves both up and down and shifting various intervals to do everything from emulating a guitar’s whammy bar to jumping common intervals like fifths.
