Sequential's Reissued Prophet-5 Is Now Smaller and Cheaper | NAMM 2021

Late last year, Sequential announced the surprise reissues of the Prophet-5 and its larger sibling, the Prophet-10. This latest of the classic Sequential Circuits polysynth is known as the Prophet-5 Rev4, with the previous model—the Rev3—having ceased production in the '80s.

Now, Sequential has released a smaller, cheaper version of the top-shelf instrument in the form of a desktop synth.

The Prophet-5 Desktop Module brings all of the same analog oscillators and filters of the Rev4 and previous models, but saves space and expense by dropping the keyboard.

Sequential writes:

"Like the full keyboard version, it’s 'the best of all Prophet-5s' because it embodies all three Prophet-5 revisions — Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 — through the use of genuine Curtis analog VCOs and filters (as in the Rev3) as well as new 2140 low-pass filters designed by Dave Rossum, like the 2040 filters he designed in the original Rev1 and Rev2. A Rev switch lets you choose between the two filter designs. It also adjusts the Filter Envelope’s shape and response to match the original Prophet Rev 1/2 or Rev 3 respectively."

Likewise, the Prophet-10 is also now available as the Prophet-10 Desktop Module, with double the synth in a still-compact body.

You can find the Prophet-5 Desktop ($2,499) and Prophet-10 Desktop ($3,299) on Reverb now. Hear the Prophet-5 in action with Sequential's demo tracks below.
