Gretsch has announced the G6131-MY Jet, a new homage to the late Malcolm Young. The guitar is a production-model replica of the AC/DC guitarist’s heavily modded and road-worn Gretsch Jet.
Malcolm, who co-wrote many of the band's songs and iconic riffs, died late last year after a long battle with dementia. But before his death, Gretsch had already honored the legendary rhythm guitarist with a limited edition Custom Shop recreation of his well-loved guitar. (The G6131MY-CS had a list price of $10,000, with only 40 reported to have been made.)
Like the original "Beast" and the Custom Shop recreation, the new G6131-MY has empty pickup chambers, visible screw holes, and a stripped finish. The one-and-only bridge pickup is a high-output TV Jones Power’Tron sure to give the hot, trebly crunch befitting Young’s legacy. The body is double-chambered mahogany and features a maple top with a thin-skin, semi-gloss finish.
With a list price of $3,749.00, the G6131-MY Jet is expected to ship in fall 2018. For more of the latest releases and news to come out of Summer NAMM 2018, be sure to click our banner below.
