Summer NAMM 2019 is well underway in Nashville, and we here at Reverb have had a chance to stop by a few of the show's best booths for a first look at some of the exciting new products that these brands have in store for the rest of this year. Today, we had a chance to hang with the folks at the Greer booth, where they showed us a brand-new pedal called the Gorilla Warfare MKII.
This new stompbox is one that's been often requested of Greer by its fans, and finally, the brand has answered their calls. The Gorilla Warfare MKII is loosely based on the famous ProCo Rat distortion and features the same highly regarded LM308 chip featured in the classic circuit.
Pitched as an "angry, aggressive, larger-than-life and not-holding-back version of the old familiar circuit," the Gorilla Warfare MKII expands and iterates on the Rat in a few notable ways. The pedal promises more dynamic range, with an expanded gain spectrum that gives you a little bit more clean headroom than you'd get with a Rat, and a much gnarlier, high-gain push on the reverse end.
Also slightly different is the control layout. The "filter" knob that you'll find on a Rat's face has been swapped in favor of a standard tone control on the Gorilla Warfare MKII. Now, when you turn it up, you get more treble and vice versa. The new circuit is packed into a sturdy aluminum chassis with a sleek, tan and black faceplate.
