Ernie Ball Music Man Releases the Mariposa, a Collaboration with Omar Rodríguez-López

This morning, makers of all things gear Ernie Ball Music Man announced the newest addition to their signature model lineup: the Mariposa, a collaboration with At the Drive-In and Mars Volta powerhouse Omar Rodríguez-López.

Joining the likes of the Saint Vincent and John Petrucci signature guitars, the Mariposa is a svelte, angular creation made with a roasted maple neck, ebony fretboard with pearlescent-style block inlays, and an okoume body. Similar to mahogany but lighter in weight, okoume is an increasingly popular option after finding favor with both Charvel and the Fender Custom Shop.

The guitar is armed with a pair of custom-wound EBMM humbuckers tailor-made to Omar’s taste for biting distortion. Two volume knobs are connected by a tethered tone circuit, which creates variations in treble response when the pups are set at different levels.

Rounding out the whole affair is a set of Schaller tuners, laser-etched floral pickguard, and four colors in two variations: Standard (Turbulent Green, Pueblo Pink), and Deluxe (Imperial Black, Imperial White), which feature gold hardware.

Standard finishes clock in at a street price of $2,899 and Deluxe outfits at $2,999. Check out EBMM's video debut for the Mariposa below. Then, click here to order yours on Reverb now.
