Last year, drone metal mavens Sunn O))) teamed up with Akron sweethearts EarthQuaker Devices to create a blistering pedal that captured the tone of their 2019 album Life Metal.
Eponymously dubbed the Life Pedal, the gargantuan trifecta of Shin-Ei octave fuzz, whiteface RAT distortion, and clean boost circuits saw two limited releases exclusively through Reverb and on the band's merch table. Both were swallowed up within hours and can fetch north of $500 on the resale market.
For those after that signature cavernous drone without the hefty price tag, the day has come to rejoice: for NAMM 2020, EQD has announced a standard production run: the Life Pedal V2.
Housed in the same type of chassis used for the Rainbow Machine, the Life Pedal boasts the same circuitry that captures Steve Albini-approved tone at a lower price point. By making the Life Pedal much easier to tweak thanks to the front-facing knobs—and much easier to house on a pedalboard than its predecessor—EQD is making a bet that demand for one of 2019's most popular effects hasn't gone anywhere since the second release came and went in August.
