Deering Banjo Company announced this week the launch of a new signature model for Winston Marshall, multi-instrumentalist and banjo player for Mumford & Sons. Building on Winston's use and customization of a Deering Eagle II model with Mumford & Sons, the new model incorporates a few key features that make it one of the more innovative banjo models to roll out in recent years.

Primarily, the newly designed electronic system combines a Kavanjo banjo pickup with a piezo element with dedicated volume controls over each, allowing players to blend the exact electrified content of the banjo's output. Combined with a three-way selector knob to isolate or mix each pickup, this system is ideal for banjoists who need to contend with varying live situations. The banjo also has a built-in XLR jack that allows players to plug in an additional microphone and route it through the same output.

Per Marshall in a press release from Deering, "For those stay-at-home banjo players or studio-heads, all the pickup options mean it’s also an exceptionally dynamic recording instrument, with ever greater possibilities of making sounds not heard before. Not to mention its warm and bright acoustic tone for that classic sound."

Beyond this unique electronic configuration, the Winston Marshall model sports a wooden grenadillo tone ring, a svelte 8-lbs body weight, and signature inlays. Fans of Mumford & Sons will also spot the inclusion of the band's "Willis" mascot on the headstock.

The main signature model will retail for $4,599 USD and is being sold exclusively via Deering and Reverb. Get yours here.
