A nylon-string guitar built for today's progressive player should preserve the warmth and expressive response of nylon strings without forcing an electric guitarist to adopt the dimensions and stage limitations of a traditional classical instrument. The Ibanez TOD100NNT Tim Henson Signature takes that idea into distinctly modern territory, expanding on the design philosophy behind Henson's signature nylon instruments with a chambered FRH body, fast C-shaped neck, sophisticated Fishman electronics, and unmistakable Tree of Death inlay. Created for the precise, genre-blurring playing associated with Polyphia guitarist Tim Henson, it gives players a nylon platform designed for technical passages, contemporary arrangements, recording, and amplified performance.
Its construction deliberately sits between acoustic and electric traditions. A flamed maple top is paired with solid okoume back and sides in a chambered FRH body, with fan bracing helping shape its acoustic response. Rather than relying on a conventional front soundhole, the design uses a side sound port that directs the instrument's acoustic voice toward the player while helping make the guitar practical in amplified environments. The set-in nyatoh neck, 1.811" nut, ebony fingerboard, contoured cutaway, and 22-fret layout create a playing experience considerably closer to a modern electric than a wide-necked classical guitar. Those qualities make the TOD100NNT particularly compelling for progressive music, neo-soul, fusion, modern fingerstyle, pop, Latin-influenced arrangements, instrumental music, and studio layering.
Amplified, the custom Fishman Aura TOD100N system combines a Fishman Acoustic Matrix undersaddle pickup with a bridge-mounted body pickup, allowing the instrument to capture both direct string response and body resonance. Its 1/4" endpin output supports mono or stereo operation, providing additional flexibility for stage rigs, recording setups, and players who want to process the two elements in more elaborate signal chains. Acoustically, the nylon strings and solid okoume construction should provide a warm, focused midrange with a softer attack than a steel-string guitar; plugged in, the dual-source Fishman system is designed to retain more of the instrument's dimensional character while providing the consistency required for professional amplification.
