USED Zachary Hoyt A-Style Walnut Octave Mandolin #17 w/Gig Bag

Located in upstate New York, Zach Hoyt has been crafting fine folk instruments of all types since the early 2000's. This recent Octave Mandolin is a great example of his work, and if you've always been attracted to the Mandolin but were put off by the tight confines, the Octave Mandolin is a great alternative for guitar players looking for the Mandolin sound in an easier to navigate format. Of course the octave lower tuning does not produce the high pitched playful ring of a standard Mandolin, but the general vibe is there and the feel is much more guitar-friendly. And the larger body yields plenty of volume and good sustain. If you want an easier transition into the world of folk instruments, the Octave Mandolin is a great option.

In the words of Zachary Hoyt: 

"The back, sides, and neck are all walnut, the headstock overlay and truss rod cover are curly walnut, the fretboard and bridge are ebony, the blocks are African mahogany,and the braces and soundboard are Sitka spruce. The scale length is 20-1/8″ and the nut width is 1-1/2″. The fretboard dots are brass.

There is a two way truss rod in the neck. The tuners are Gotoh from Smakula Fretted Instruments, the strings are a D’Addario octave mandolin set, the bridge adjustment wheels are from Stew-Mac, and the tailpiece is a generic import. The finish is Tru Oil, like I always use."
