This is a 1965 Fender Champ-Amp, serial number A05811, and it is one of the cleanest examples you will find of a 61-year-old amplifier. The tolex is free of cuts, tears, or scuffs, and the entire exterior has been thoroughly cleaned down to every screw. Hardware shows natural age-related patina consistent with an amp of this vintage. It presents as what collectors call a closet classic, meaning it was almost certainly stored away for the better part of its life and saw minimal use or handling. When I opened the chassis to service it, everything pointed to this amp being untouched since it left the factory. The original wiring, circuit, and components were exactly as Fender built them.
Both transformers are original and date-coded to 1965. The output transformer is a Schumacher 606-5-48, built in week 48 of 1965, and the power transformer is a Schumacher 606-5-40, built in week 40 of 1965. These are not replaced or mismatched, and they test and perform correctly. The original circuit is intact and unmodified.
Servicing was done to bring the amp to safe and reliable operating condition without altering its character. The electrolytic capacitors were replaced with quality Jupiter and Sprague units. The original orange Mallory caps were also replaced. The bias resistor was replaced. The two-prong ungrounded power cord was replaced with a quality braided three-prong grounded cord. The original speaker had a sagging, rubbing cone and required replacement. It was replaced with a Ted Weber CVA8, a 4 ohm 10 watt Classic Alnico speaker, manufactured September 2025. The non-functioning 12AX7 was replaced with a new JJ.
The amp runs NOS RCA tubes in the 5Y3 rectifier and 6V6 output positions. Bias is set conservatively at approximately 60%, which gives the amp more headroom and allows notes to bloom and open up when pushed. It sounds exactly like a Champ should, and it sounds fantastic cranked up with a Gibson.
This is a straightforward, honest listing. Everything replaced or changed in this amp is disclosed above. What you are getting is a 61-year-old Fender Champ that survived in remarkable cosmetic condition, with its original circuit, original transformers, and a proper service done by someone who knows what they are looking at.
