Duplex Dual Tension Orchestra Snare, Early 1900’s - CoB 5” x 15.5”
Enthusiast seeking an actually calfskin vintage drums in your collection, here is an original 1897 to early 1900’s, Duplex concert snare. 5” x 15.5” Chrome over Brass shell with Maple hoops & a Rosewood outer ply. New calfskin batter head & new goatskin snare side head. Original snare wires function nicely. Fully playable with classic, pop and calf punch! A real kick to play. The chrome has the expected patina, but that’s sort of the point in a vintage unit. Has a dual tension system ( first invented by Emile Boulanger - founder of Duplex) for a wider of tuning range than typical single tension drums of the same era. There are 15, single point, dual sided original Duplex lugs and 30 original (#10-24) skinny tension rods present. They all smoothly function with most turning like butter. The hoops are level and even. Brings an authoritative calfskin punch with a melodic shell resonance & even decay.
This early vintage, collectable professional orchestra/concert snare is the best of its era. See photos and video for more details on playability … (included one photo of how I received it). No Badge.
