Rare Vintage Rigoutat Oboe / Mozambique Ebony / Serial No. 1280 / Pre-1960s
Rare Rigoutat oboe made from Mozambique ebony, serial number 1280, likely manufactured before the 1960s.
Rigoutat is a renowned French maker, appreciated for the quality of its craftsmanship and the warm, refined sound of its instruments.
The body is made from Mozambique ebony, traditionally used for professional oboes due to its density, stability and resonance qualities. The wood has been cleaned and nourished, and the keywork is complete and functional.
The instrument was played several years ago by a professional oboist, who appreciated its soft, mellow and singing tone. More recently, professional players tested the instrument and noted that it would benefit from adjustment / servicing in the lower register before regular playing use.
General condition:
• Healthy wood, cleaned and nourished
• Cork pads in good condition
• Complete and functional mechanism
• Minor spotting on some keys (cosmetic only)
Please note: this instrument does not feature the low B♭ bell key found on most modern oboes. It still plays down to low B and remains suitable for much educational and amateur repertoire.
Ideal for a musician, collector, or someone interested in a quality French oboe with historical character.
Sold as-is — instrument fully described and photographed.
