Restored Tannoy PBM-8 Studio Monitors (Factory Voice-Matched)

Fully serviced, future-proofed, and cosmetically updated by Upstate Vintage Speaker Lab.

The Restoration Includes:

• Factory-Original Tweeter Replacement: One original tweeter was found to be out of performance specifications. It was removed and replaced with a genuine factory-original Tannoy replacement unit. The replacement tweeter was fully bench-tested and performance-verified to ensure a tonal and output match with the surviving factory tweeter, preserving the monitor's stereo imaging.
• Woofer Surround Refoaming: The degraded, crumbling original factory foam surrounds on both large 8-inch woofers were removed. The voice coils were centered and fitted with poly-foam surrounds to restore factory cone compliance, low-frequency excursion, and transient accuracy.
• Crossover Network Upgrade: The crossover networks were pulled and tested. The original aging electrolytic capacitors were removed and replaced with high-tolerance film capacitors to bring the driver frequency slopes back to original factory studio specifications and ensure long-term electronic stability.
• Enclosure Restoration & Detailing: The cabinet enclosures and plastic trim components were deep-cleaned to remove surface residue. Minor surface abrasions and superficial imperfections were mechanically reduced before the cabinetry was treated with a premium synthetic polymer conditioning agent to restore a clean, uniform factory finish.
• Grille Deep Cleaning: The removable cloth grilles were subjected to a meticulous deep extraction to remove decades of airborne particulate matter, fully reviving the fabric color and texture while preserving structural frame integrity.
• 80-Hour Lab Soak Test: Every speaker undergoes a strict "burn-in" to ensure the new capacitors are fully settled, the new foam surrounds are properly conditioned, and the system is mechanically and electronically stable before being offered for sale.

The Result: My 40 years of component-level experience ensures you are receiving a "bullet-proofed" pair of speakers that sound—and look—better than the day they left the factory. This pair provides the highly precise, low-distortion, revealing acoustic signature that vintage nearfield Tannoy studio monitors are globally revered for.

The Audition: I encourage you to test them in the Lab. I can demo them on my reference system with instant A/B switching so you can compare them to other restored pairs.

Investment & Value: The price reflects a professional restoration that generic marketplace listings cannot offer.

Performance: Premium components and finishes matching or exceeding original factory tolerances.

Peace of Mind: Professional bench time and a 30-day limited warranty.

Provenance: 80-hour lab certification and documentation of the work performed. As a retired enthusiast, my focus is on the preservation of audio equipment. I absorb the testing and acquisition costs to extend the operational lifespan of these systems.
