Legends of Fuzz Series

In 1969, Electro-Harmonix released the Triangle, the first version of the legendary Big Muff distortion fuzz.
In the 1970s, various new versions of this famous circuit were released, such as the V2Ram's Head (1973), V3Pi (1977), and V4OP-Amp (1978), but all of them stopped in 1984.
Electro-Harmonix's second bankruptcy meant that the Big Muff, which boasted immense product appeal, disappeared from the market for approximately 10 years.
In the early 1990s, founder Mike Matthews learned that Electro-Harmonix pedals from the 1970s were trading at vintage/rare prices, and in 1991 he signed a manufacturing contract with a former Soviet Union company in St. Petersburg to revive the Big Muff.
Technically, this new version is called the 7th version of the Big Muff, but since Mike no longer owned the previous trademark, it was named the Sovtek-made Mike Matthews Red Army Overdrive.
This version is one of the earliest Russian-made Big Muffs and is probably the rarest model of all versions.
Only a very small number were produced between 1991 and 1992, and there are hardly any surviving examples, making them virtually impossible to obtain.
While it shares some features with the famous Sovtek Civil War (late 1992) version, this version is considered a separate entity.
Warmer, clearer, and more articulate than any subsequent Sovtek Big Muff, the Red Army offers a unique flavor to this very familiar effect.
