Pair of 1970 Park 2×12 PA Column Cabinets

Original Celestion G12M T1221 Pre-Rola Greenbacks

A remarkably original and seldom-seen matched pair of Park 2×12 PA column cabinets, dating from late 1970 and retaining all four of their original Celestion G12M T1221 Greenbacks with Pulsonic 102 003 cones.

The cabinet serial numbers are 10101 and 10110, just nine numbers apart, while the Celestion chassis carry closely grouped late-November 1970 date codes including KC28R and KC29R. Taken together, the cabinet numbers and speaker dates are entirely consistent with these having remained together as a pair since new.

For collectors of early Park equipment, or anyone putting together an authentic period Marshall/Park rig, these are a particularly unusual survivors.

Speaker Specification

Each cabinet is fitted with two original Celestion G12M T1221 speakers:

• Celestion G12M T1221
• 25 watts per speaker
• 16 ohms per speaker
• 75 c/s resonance
• Pre-Rola Celestion Ltd, Thames Ditton labels
• Original Pulsonic 102 003 cones
• Late-November 1970 chassis date codes

The T1221 is one of the classic Greenback models associated with the great British guitar sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s. These have the familiar warm, woody midrange, slightly softened top end and natural compression that makes an original Pulsonic-coned Greenback so distinctive when pushed.

Cabinets

The cabinets are the tall, open-backed Park PA column design, finished in black levant tolex with the wonderfully blue/turquoise grille cloth, white piping and large Perspex Park badges.

To the best of our knowledge they retain:

• Original black covering
• Original blue/turquoise grille cloth
• Original white piping
• Original large Perspex Park badges
• Original speaker and cabinet screws
• Original jack sockets and serial-number plates
• Original metal handle end plates

The carrying straps themselves have been replaced at some point, although the original metal handle fittings remain.

Condition

Both cabinets are in very good, honest condition for equipment now more than 55 years old.

There are the expected signs of use including scuffs, small areas of covering loss and wear around some edges and lower corners, together with light ageing and marks to the grille cloth, piping and Perspex badges.
