1988 Fender Japan FujiGen '62 Reissue Stratocaster in Charcoal Burst
Very uncommon 1988 Fender Japan Stratocaster built at FujiGen during the highly regarded FujiGen-era Fender Japan period.
This example has an E-series serial number and a pencil date of 7.2.88 on the neck heel. The Charcoal Burst finish is particularly unusual. I have not found this configuration represented in the standard Fender Japan catalogs from the period, and very few comparable examples seem to surface.
The guitar weighs approximately 3.5 kg / 7.7 lb and has the feel you would hope for from a well-played late-1980s Strat. It is resonant, lively, and has a nice balance of warmth and traditional Strat brightness.
Condition is Very Good for its age. It has genuine play wear, including assorted dings, scratches, and finish wear consistent with a guitar that has been played for nearly four decades. Nothing has been artificially aged or reliced. Please see the detailed photos for condition.
The neck is straight, the truss rod functions properly, and there is plenty of usable life remaining in the frets. Structurally and electronically the guitar is sound and functioning as it should.
Includes the period-correct Japanese leatherette gig bag shown in the photos.
