Marshall

1982B 4×12 Bass Cabinet – 1978

Celestion G12H T1234 Blackbacks

A great example of a 1978 Marshall 1982B, the straight-front version of Marshall’s heavy-duty 1982-series 4×12 cabinet, loaded with a superb set of period Celestion G12H T1234 Blackback speakers.

The 1982 series was Marshall’s higher-powered 4×12 option, and the combination of the substantial straight cabinet and heavy-magnet G12H speakers gives these cabs a particularly big and authoritative sound. Compared with the more familiar G12M-loaded cabinets, there's greater low-end control, headroom and punch while retaining the unmistakable character of a vintage Celestion.

The T1234 G12H is a 30-watt, 55Hz bass-cone model and is particularly well suited to the 1982B. Tonally, these speakers deliver a deep, firm bottom end, strong midrange and a clear, powerful attack. Paired with a good JMP-era head, the result is an enormous classic Marshall sound with excellent definition even when the amp is being pushed hard.

This cabinet is in very good overall condition for its age. The covering presents extremely well, although on close inspection we believe the cabinet has been recovered at some point in its life. We've therefore described it accordingly rather than representing the tolex as original.

Most importantly, the cabinet retains its set of Celestion G12H T1234 Blackback speakers, which are a major part of the character and desirability of this particular cab.

The 1982B is a fantastic partner for a 100-watt JMP, particularly if you're looking for a little more depth and authority than a standard 1960-series cabinet. The T1234 Blackbacks are the real attraction here, delivering the big, muscular low end and unmistakable vintage Celestion character that suits a cranked Marshall beautifully.

A great vintage cabinet to use rather than simply admire — nearly 50 years old, loaded with the right kind of speakers and ready to be turned up.
