1983 ES-335 DOT reissue from the original Gibson Custom Shop with a pearl white finish (now looks more yellow than white). With the famous, original PAF Tim Shaw humbuckers!This 16-inch-wide guitar weighs just 8.43 lbs. Single cream color binding (top and bottom) laminated maple body with maple central block. One-piece mahogany neck with a nut width of 1 11/16 inches, a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches and a nice medium to thick neck profile (like a ‘60 or '64). Cream binding along rosewood fretboard with 22 original medium jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl Gibson logo and pearl crown inlay. Serial number "83633686" impressed on the back of the headstock. Tim Shaw, a Gibson engineer during this era, worked to recreate the Gibson ”Patent Applied For” pickups from Gibson's golden era of the late 1950s - early 1960s. As you can see in the photos, this guitar has a set of those valuable PAFs and the tone is amazing… worth the hype.Five-layer black over white plastic pickguard with beveled edge. Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch. Black plastic bell-shaped knobs. Housed in the original Gibson five-latch (one latch is broken), shaped black hard shell case with dark red plush lining.It has this “SEC” marking on the back of the headstock. I have no idea why but one theory I’ve heard is because the guitar has normal Grover-branded tuners with mushroom shaped buttons instead of Gibson 'Grover' RotoMatic tuners with tulip shaped metal buttons, which were standard on these. That would have failed the quality control inspection.I'm sorry to say goodbye to this one, it's a standout in my collection. It's not the most pristine specimen (as you can see in the close up pics), but sure has soul and character. ButI'm thinning the electric heard and growing the acoustic heard.
