About this listing
For sale is a rare 2002 Crafted in Japan Fender Jazzmaster in its original factory Burgundy Mist Metallic finish with matching headstock. The neck pocket is factory stamped JM66-80 BMT, confirming it as an original factory Burgundy Mist Metallic JM66-80 rather than a refinished instrument. It also carries a handwritten “12”, believed to indicate number 12 from the widely cited limited Burgundy Mist production run.Serial number: Q033640This guitar has had studio-only use throughout its 24-year life and remains in remarkable condition for its age. It has been exceptionally well cared for, with only very minor cosmetic wear. Any marks have been intentionally photographed under direct lighting so they can be seen clearly. In normal use they are extremely subtle and difficult to notice. In June 2026, the guitar received its first ever refret, professionally carried out by Nottingham City Guitars. The frets remain virtually untouched with zero visible fret wear, and the guitar has only seen minimal use since. It is currently professionally set up with D’Addario Chrome Flatwound 11-50 strings, giving a wonderfully smooth feel, excellent tuning stability and the classic warm, articulate Jazzmaster sound. The original Fender Japan pickups have been upgraded to a set of Fender Pure Vintage ’65 Jazzmaster pickups. The original Fender Japan pickups, original pickup covers and all original mounting hardware are included, allowing the guitar to be returned very close to factory specification if desired. The original factory pickguard is retained and remains fully shielded. The bridge has been upgraded to a German-made Schaller GB-0590-010 Roller Tune-o-Matic, installed using adaptor posts in the original bridge thimbles, meaning no permanent modifications have been made. The guitar can easily be returned to the original bridge design if preferred. The original Fender tremolo arm is included. The guitar will be supplied with its original Fender strap buttons fitted. The Marvel-style strap locks shown in some photographs will be removed prior to sale.ConditionConsidering this guitar is now 24 years old, it presents exceptionally well. The Burgundy Mist Metallic finish retains a deep metallic lustre, the matching headstock remains vibrant, and the hardware is in excellent condition. Combined with the recent professional refret, this is a superb example that is ready for many more years of playing.CaseSupplied with a brand new Fender eyeglass case, retailing at £180.RarityFactory Burgundy Mist Metallic matching-headstock JM66-80 Jazzmasters appear extremely infrequently on the market, particularly outside Japan. From my own research, I have found only eight previous sales, all originating from the Japanese domestic market, and I have not seen another 2002 example offered for sale in the UK during my ownership. This is an increasingly uncommon opportunity to acquire a documented JM66-80 BMT in largely original condition, benefiting from sympathetic, fully reversible upgrades and a recent professional refret.Collection is available from Cambridge or Nottingham.Fully insured shipping is available at the buyer’s expense.
