Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom1954 Reissue – Murphy Lab Light Aged

Made to Measure | Antique Gold | 2024

For sale is a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom 1954 Reissue, Murphy Lab Light Aged, finished in Antique Gold and built in 2024.

This guitar was commissioned through Gibson’s Made to Measure (M2M) program. The ’54 Les Paul Custom is normally only offered in black, making this Antique Gold finish a highly unusual and desirable specification.

To my knowledge, this exact specification exists in just three guitars worldwide:

  • Two in the UK, made for Andertons
  • One in the USA

This is one of those three.

The guitar is in exactly the same condition as when it left the shop — no additional wear, no modifications, and no issues of any kind.

Description

The 1954 Les Paul Custom represents the very beginning of the Les Paul story and remains one of the most historically important models Gibson has ever produced. This reissue combines a solid mahogany body, classic ’50s neck profile, and an ABR-1 bridge, delivering a tone that is resonant, articulate, and unmistakably vintage in character.

The Murphy Lab Light Aged finish on this example is truly exceptional. I’ve owned and handled several Murphy Lab guitars, and this one has the finest lacquer checking I’ve ever seen on a Murphy Lab instrument. The checking is beautifully natural, evenly distributed, and highly convincing — subtle and authentic rather than overdone.

The Antique Gold finish suits the ’54 design perfectly, giving it a rare, almost prototype-like appearance. It looks like a guitar that could have existed in the mid-1950s, rather than something artificially aged.
