The Weltklang Solist is the top-line model from the Weltklang range, manufactured by B&S in Markneukirchen/Klingenthal, East Germany. As the flagship of the lineup, it distinguishes itself with pearl key inlays and a notably heavy, thick-metal construction complete with wire keyguards and rolled tone holes on earlier examples. Players prize these instruments for a huge, full, and warm tone that is widely described as blowing wide open - a sound character difficult to replicate with modern saxophones. A standout mechanical feature is a special key arrangement that allows the Low A to be accessed via both the thumb rest key and a key on the left-hand plateau. Finishes typically run to gold lacquer or silver plate with silver keys.
