2020 Reverend Charger 290 in Coffee Burst - Very Good condition.

Twin Reverend 9A5 P90s, a resonant Korina body and Reverend’s extremely useful Bass Contour control give the Charger 290 a much wider tonal range than a conventional twin-P90 guitar might suggest. This 2020 Coffee Burst example comes from the earlier Charger 290 specification, with a Tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece, roasted maple neck and Pau Ferro fingerboard. It can move from thick, raw P90 drive through to much tighter, brighter sounds without losing the straightforward feel that makes the model so appealing. (Russo Music)

Condition

This guitar is in very good condition. It shows light cosmetic wear consistent with normal careful use, but presents very well overall and has clearly been looked after (see photos).

Most importantly, it is in very good playing and working condition, with the electronics and hardware functioning as intended, and is ready to go straight into regular use.

Sound and performance

The pair of Reverend 9A5 pickups are hotter-than-vintage P90s, delivering plenty of midrange weight, attack and grit while retaining the open response that makes this style of pickup so useful. The neck position is warm and full without becoming overly muddy, while the bridge has enough bite to cut through for rock, blues and more aggressive rhythm playing. (peachguitars.com)

One of the Charger 290’s most useful features is Reverend’s Bass Contour control. Rather than acting like another conventional tone knob, it is a passive bass roll-off that progressively removes low frequencies. With the control fully up, you get the fuller voice of the P90s; rolling it back tightens the low end and can give them a leaner, more single-coil-like twang. That makes the guitar particularly versatile when moving between clean and driven sounds. (reverendguitars.com)

Playability and functionality

The 25.5-inch scale gives the Charger plenty of definition and familiar string tension, while the Medium Oval roasted maple neck and 12-inch fingerboard radius provide a comfortable middle ground between traditional and more modern neck shapes. The 22 medium-jumbo frets give plenty of room for bends and lead work without making the guitar feel excessively flat or shred-oriented.

Reverend’s Pin-Lock tuners secure the strings at the posts for quicker restringing and improved tuning stability, while the Tune-o-matic and stop-tailpiece arrangement keeps the bridge setup simple and dependable. Reverend confirms that its guitars are built by Mirr Music in South Korea to the company’s designs and specifications. (reverendguitars.com)

The Coffee Burst finish suits the Charger particularly well, giving the modern body shape a slightly more traditional feel while still looking unmistakably Reverend. Combined with the P90S and Bass Contour circuit, it is a guitar that can comfortably handle clean twang, blues, indie, alternative and heavier rock without needing an overly complicated switching system.

A great choice if you want a distinctive twin-P90 guitar with plenty of character, excellent tonal flexibility and the thoughtful design touches that Reverend has become known for.
