Vintage Gear America is owned by John Russell Nelson a native Californian and professional lead guitarist known primarily for having played with John Lee Hooker and Eddie Money. In addition to his musical career John has become one of the best informed vintage musical stringed instruments experts in the world. After quitting Eddie Money in the late 80s John started his post musical career of buying and selling high end vintage guitars ultimately developing a vintage retail store model that eventually grew into two stores on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, Vintage Gear Hollywood and Thrift Store Music. The "vintage gear" stores immediately became the best of Los Angeles with customer base that included Radiohead, Wilco, The Chili Peppers, Shawn Lennon, Jon Brion and many others.
