I’m Patrick Ironwood, 59—late-bloomer modular synthesist, NASA/Heinbach style, OG EQ style...and I live in the mixed-mesophisic forest canyons of southern Appalachia. Going on 3 years ago, began researching and carefully advancing my gear and knowledge toward a system for doing sound design from natural signals using analog hardware systems and thinking directed towards the goal not of music making but of finding novel new ways of finding and using sound, both frequency and organic textural quadraphonic atmospheric immersive negative space with levity.


I’m selective about trades and sales—modules, other gear, and finds move only when I'm sure I've moved on or have multiple redundancies…. I’m documenting patches, creating reference materials, and exploring how the conditions of physical reality from ELF, RF, and EMF, and simply the vibration of the room used with novel experimental expressive controllers, work together for immersive sound design and play.

I will eventually post discoveries, ask for advice, and share what I learn, but up until now, I've been keeping to myself. But now I'm finding myself interested in others who are starting to dive deep and want more fingers and minds in the mix. try to bring the same humility here that I do to learning a new module: listen, then experiment, then share.
