Eddie Osborne is a longtime crafter of African and African-derived musical instruments, a freelance writer, and an author. In 1997, he was one of six persons statewide selected as "Master Artists" by the Florida Department of State's Folklife/Folklore Apprenticeship Program. Later, Osborne's handiwork was featured in "Florida Folklife: Traditional Arts in Contemporary Communities" (a five-city statewide exhibition curated by Miami's Historical Museum of Southern Florida. More recently, his work was included in "By Heart and Hand," an upcoming exhibition by the Orange County Regional History Center (Orlando). When not crafting instruments, Osborne researches and writes articles for submission to publications in the United States and the Caribbean. His published books include Essential Bambara and Essential Wolof (two African language phrase books, both out of print), which he co-authored with the late Mouhamadou Ouattara; Essential Jamaican Patwa, co-authored with Sheila Osborne; and the forthcoming African Gourd Rattles You Can Make.
