Welcome,Here we present a players classic from Yamaha, Japan.This is a 1971 FG-180 from the famous Red Label era making this piece sought after by buskers and luminaries alike.....Some of the buskers are of course also luminaries! - check Blaze Foley, he stuck with his FG-180 and lived in a dumpster, bless him, a man after my own heart! RIP, he was a beauty.Anyhow, people usually name drop Elliot Smith in reference to this model, and this guitar has certainly has that experience and vibe, anyone can see that.Cosmetically it is weathered - it’s 55 years old!This said, it still looks great with nothing at all that would put a player off, just the opposite in fact.There are no apparent repairs and the only alteration is that there is a replacement pickguard fitted which is not a recent addition, we can make and fit a Yamaha style one as part of the restore, if asked.The tone and mojo reflect the appearance, and really this guitar is exactly what it should be, tone and looks alike.In the studio, people will often leave their Taylors and Martins in their cases, and reach for this beauty instead when they hear that first chord sing out, it is always surprising how good these actually are even when surrounded by guitars up to 50 times this price level!Setup wise its already remarkably good and far above average in terms of adjustability - most of these are maxed out with zero saddle room, which this one is not.The bridge itself is original and has not been shaved, and there is enough saddle room to lower the action to a very realistically low setup (not usual), we will of course set to a low action unless advised otherwise.The frets are very low and have been levelled a few times, although no playability issues are noted, we may partially re-fret the guitar or leave original, all is possible and your choice.A nice touch is also the original Yamaha branded case, most do not have this in the UK, complete with the almost-never-seen original truss rod adjuster!All in all this is a very good example, and the price has been set in accordance, if you check the prices in Japan are mainly now even higher than this, so we keep it realistic and we do the work, who else offers that service?
