Inside there is an internal trim pot set to low gain. You can increase it accordingly to get heavier barkier tones but its set and forget. The whole point of the PDF-1X is for it to be a tone shaper, a sweetener at the end of your pedal chain to enhance the tone of your rig. Place it after any overdrive or fuzz and before modulation and it will enhance your tone as a boost, EQ and Distortion device
