How's it going! You're looking at a 1969 Gibson Crest Gold Hollow-Body Electric Guitar!Made in 1969 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, this Gibson Crest Gold is an incredibly rare piece with all of its original hard wear and has only had one previous owner! This Crest Gold is one of 56 made in 1969 and is famous for being the only Gibson electric model to feature a body constructed entirely from figured Brazilian rosewood veneers on its top, back and sides. While this guitar shares a similar double-cutaway thinline appearance with the Semi-hollow ES-335, this Gibson Crest is a fully-hollow guitar, lacking a solid center block making it notably lighter and more resonant. The guitar feels incredibly comfortable in hand featuring a classic "C" neck profile that provides a more substantial "archtop" feel compared to the thinner, narrower necks that are common on late 60s Gibsons. Because the Johnny Smith mini-humbuckers sit on top of the body without being recessed into routs, the neck is at a steeper angle and the bridge sits higher off the body than usual. Plugged or unplugged, the all-rosewood construction provides a rich, warm and resonant acoustic voice. The floating Johnny Smith mini-humbuckers produce a mellow, clean and articulate tone, perfect for Jazz. They don't have the high-gain "punch" of standard humbuckers but instead capture more of the guitars natural acoustic vibration, almost like a high-end microphone. Cosmetically, the original nitrocellulose finish shows vertical weather checking and honest playwear throughout. The multi-ply binding has aged into a cream white and remains tight on the body. The original gold hard wear, including the mini-humbuckers and the Crest-inlaid tailpiece show a light, authentic patina consistent with a well-loved guitar made over 50 years ago (See photos provided). While the tuners have been replaced, the original "waffleback" tuners are included. All of the original electronics are in working order on this guitar. The neck is straight, the intonation is spot on and the action is excellent. There is some minor fret wear apparent on the top few frets but this will not affect the guitars playability. This Gibson Crest comes professionally set up with new strings weighing in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces. This guitar also comes with its original hard shell case.
