Ibanez Unveils New Telecaster-Style Models and More for NAMM 2021

This week, Ibanez revealed several new models that will be available throughout 2021. New models include both artist signatures and additions to existing production series, like the Axion Label, RGD, and RGA lines. But most exciting from Ibanez this year are two new Telecaster-style designs called the Ibanez Prestige AZS2200 and AZS2209.

Though most known today for models that appeal majorly to the metal guitar community, Ibanez has dabbled in Telecaster shapes before—during the lawsuit era of the '70s—but this is the first time that we've seen this shape hit regular Ibanez production lines since.

The Prestige AZS2200 comes in three model varieties with different tops: the AZS2200 features an alder body and black finish, the AZS2200F features a flamed maple top on its alder body and is finished in Sunset Burst, and the AZS2200Q features a quilted maple top on its alder body and is finished in Royal Blue Sapphire. All three models feature roasted maple necks with 22 jumbo frets, Gotoh T1802 tremolo bridges, a Seymour Duncan Magic Touch-mini pickup in the neck, and an Alnico II Pro Custom pickup in the bridge.

The AZS2209H, meanwhile, comes in two different model varieties with different finishes: Tri Fade Burst and Prussian Blue Metallic. These models feature ash bodies married to roasted maple necks, Gotoh F1803 bridges, and no tremolo.

The neck position is outfitted with a Seymour Duncan Magic Touch-mini pickup and the bridge gets a Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Custom pickup. These models also features "In-Tune" saddles, co-designed by Gotoh and Ibanez, that are equipped with grooves that actively prevent string slippage.

In addition to the new Telecaster-style models, Ibanez also announced a variety of new finishes and variations for its RG, RGA, RGD, and Axion Label model families, as well as a new signature model with Lari Basilio.
