Description

The Thomastik-Infeld GR112 is the roundwound counterpart to the GB112 in the George Benson signature series, developed in direct collaboration with the 10-time Grammy-winning guitarist and built to his personal specifications. The plain E, B, and G are brass-plated steel; the D, A, and low E are pure nickel roundwound. What sets the George Benson strings apart from Thomastik-Infeld's other jazz lines is the specific balance of gauges and tension that Benson himself dialed in — designed from the ground up for true intonation across the neck, excellent sustain, and the superior durability required by a working professional's schedule.

Voiced for semi-acoustic and acoustic archtop jazz guitars, the GR112 delivers a mellow, focused timbre with the familiar articulation and pick response of a traditional roundwound. Compared to the flatwound GB112, the GR112 offers a brighter, more open top end with more sustain and a bit more clarity for single-note lines, while still holding onto the warm, controlled midrange the George Benson line is known for. At .012-.053, the medium-light gauge sits in the classic archtop sweet spot — firm enough for authoritative chord comping and warm, singing lead lines, light enough for fluid single-note runs up the neck. Made in Vienna to Thomastik-Infeld's century-old standards.
