11The Moogerfooger MF-103 12-Stage Phaser (originally designed by Bob Moog) is a legendary, all-analog effects pedal. It blends a 6/12-stage phase shifter with a wide-range Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO). Known for its psychedelic "whoosh," it features extensive Control Voltage (CV) routing, letting you dynamically morph sounds from subtle warmth to wild ring-modulation.
Key Features and Controls
- Two Phase Modes: You can switch between 6-stage (three notches in the frequency response) and 12-stage (six notches) for distinctly different sounds.
- Drive: An input level control that lets you enrich the signal, add analog warmth, or push the unit into subtle overdrive.
- LFO Section: Controls the Rate (speed) and Amount (depth) of the sweep. Cranked to maximum, the LFO can reach audio-rate speeds, creating harsh, ring modulator-esque tones.
- Sweep: Manually shifts the frequency response pattern through a six-octave range, or acts as a stationary notch filter if the LFO is off.
- Resonance: Increases the feedback/depth of the phaser, making the frequency peaks sharper and more pronounced.
Routing and Connectivity
- Main & Aux Outputs: Constantly outputs two different signals. The Aux output acts in reverse, inverting the peaks and dips for massive stereo imaging.
- CV Inputs: Features jacks for Phaser Sweep, Resonance, and LFO Rate. This lets you connect expression pedals or integrate it directly with synthesizers and modular gear.
