1970 "A" serial number 100 watt Marshall Super Lead. It delivers the thunder. A loud, brash, strong beast with plenty of headroom, but of course distorts beautifully and delivers the Van Halen, etc tone in spades when turned up. Super Leads are *loud* amps, and this one is no exception by any stretch. It has the classic bark and breathes the fire that only a real Super Lead from this era can deliver. Being built so close behind the "Plexi" era, it has virtually the same circuitry. They phased out the plexiglass panel for the brushed gold aluminum late 69, but the chassis and circuitry of the 1970 "A" models remained virtually the same. This is as close to a 69 or earlier Plexi you will find at this price and condition. It is punchy and aggressive, with proper gain for classic rock of the era and beyond. It has been recently examined and cleaned-up by a great tech here in Boise and it is more than up to spec - clean pots, tidy chassis, - no issues. The main caps are original but are still in good working order. Two caps were replaced on the board and the "Death Cap" was removed from the polarity input. The polarity switch was required for Marshall imports and the capacitor tied to it shocked the f*#k out of a lot of people, hence the name. I replaced the Ohm selector with the modern version, unable to obtain the original style with the plug in style that would fall out and get lost. The pins just didn't fit securely. I still have all the original parts that were replaced for nostalgia. It is pretty rare to find these amps in this kind of respectable and largely unmolested condition 50+ years later -- the many external and internal photos tell the story. Externally it has its share of tolex dings, scratches, and scuffing, with a couple spots missing a small amount of tolex and notable fraying on the bottom. It's not near perfect but it's solid and presents beautifully. Internals: The transformers are all original of course, as well as the chassis, tolex, logo, handle, feet, and virtually all of the circuit with just some minor normal changes/fixes in its 56 year journey. Main transformer case is dented, my tech says it might have had something dropped on it when it was out of the case but is cosmetic only. Original tube retainers -- very cool! Rosemary signed. :-) My tech was impressed and called it a "near museum piece" internally. This is a great honest and nearly bone stock early metal panel (12/23/1970) Marshall with no extra holes, no mods former or present, no nonsense. Bonus: Not suggesting one would necessarily mod a nice stock amp like this, but if you're the type to want to do so this head and many US-distributed 70's 100 watt heads have 4 speaker outputs *stock*, so one could easily perform a non-invasive PPIMV or effects loop mod without any extra drill holes using the existing two extra speakers jack holes. Good stuff if that's your thing. Having just checked Reverb I believe this is the nicest and most stock metal panel hand-wired Super Lead available right now, and earlier than most asking similar prices. I believe this is priced commensurately with condition and era ("A" serial number!) I will consider serious offers only. If you are serious, I can send you more detailed pic's or you can see it in person and plug in. Thanks for looking!
