Up for sale is an incredibly rare piece of British rock history: a mid-1960s Selmer Stereomaster. Famously utilized by both Syd Barrett and David Gilmour during the early, psychedelic days of Pink Floyd (circa 1968–1970), the Stereomaster is one of the most elusive and sought-after models from Selmer's transition into the "metal box" aluminum-front cosmetic era.
Unlike the more common mono Treble 'N' Bass models, the Stereomaster was produced in highly limited numbers and features two completely independent 50-watt EL34-powered power sections inside one chassis. A highly functional front-panel switch allows you to use a single guitar input to feed both amplifier front ends simultaneously, or keep them completely separate for true dual-channel/stereo routing.
This amplifier delivers that unmistakable mid-60s British chime, moving from bell-like cleans to a glorious, harmonically rich, slightly fuzzy overdriven crunch when pushed—the exact sonic signature heard on A Saucerful of Secrets and More.
In conjucttion with the standard treble and bass controls, 1The 6-button Selectortone tone bank can dial in an amazing sweep from high frequency with less bass to earth shattering bass (think Hiiwatt plus some)
Condition & Authenticity Report:
- Cosmetics: The aluminum "Metal Box" faceplate is in great shape. The original background shows typical age, but the silk-screened lettering is crisp, clean, and has zero degradation to its readable form. The original push buttons are fully intact, clean, and mechanically sound.
- Transformers: Features the original, highly coveted transformers. The iron is completely untouched, healthy, and structurally sound—the holy grail for vintage tone and long-term investment value.
- Circuitry & Components: Professionally serviced for flawless, safe operation. The main power supply filter capacitors have been updated with high-quality, period-correct replacements for safety, and the bias supply capacitors have also been updated to premium new components. The rest of the circuit board remains original and completely untouched.
- Tubes/Valves: Equipped with a premium vintage tube complement. The power sections feature a freshly installed, matched set of New Old Stock (NOS) GE EL34 power tubes (2 per amplifier). The preamp sections run a robust complement of existing vintage GE ECC83 / 12AX7 tubes.
Technical Specs:
- Power Output: Dual 50 Watts (100 Watts Total, All-Valve)
- Power Tubes: 4 x EL34 (2 per independent amplifier section)
- Preamp Tubes: 4 x ECC83 / 12AX7 (2 per independent amplifier section)
- Controls: Independent Volume, Treble, Bass, and the iconic 6-button Selectortone tone bank for each amplifier section.
- Front Panel Switch: Mono/Stereo input link switch (1 input to both tracks or fully split).
- Speaker Outputs: True split-load/stereo functionality. Each of the two independent amplifier channels features its own dedicated 7.5 Ohm and 15.5 Ohm outputs.
- Mains Voltage: Wired for standard US 116V AC input.
Shipping & Bench Testing:
This amplifier has been professionally bench-tested and runs rock-solid. The bias has been precision-set for the NOS GE glass, all pots and individual push-button switches have been deep-cleaned with high-grade contact cleaner, and the circuit shows zero DC leakage on the grids.
Given the extreme rarity, weight, and value of this unit, it will be packed to an absolute bulletproof standard. All vintage tubes will be pulled, carefully labeled, and individually wrapped in heavy bubble wrap to prevent damage during transit. The chassis will be securely double-boxed and shipped with full signature tracking and insurance. International buyers, please message me directly prior to purchasing for an accurate shipping quote.
Don't miss the chance to own an investment-grade, historically significant British tube amplifier that almost never hits the open market.
