The instrument in the image is a vintage concert mellophone, specifically a model often referred to as a "circular" or "classic" mellophone. The branding "Mersel American" indicates it is likely a vintage stencil instrument associated with Selmer New York

  • Type: Traditional "Concert" or "Circular" mellophone with a sideways-facing bell, distinguishing it from modern forward-facing marching mellophones.
  • Brand Origin: The "Mersel American" name appears on vintage instruments sold through Selmer (USA), which began in New York in 1904. These were often "stencil" horns—instruments manufactured by one company (like Conn or Martin) and engraved with another's brand name for sale by music stores.
  • Design Era: Based on the style of the valve caps and braces, this instrument likely dates to the 1920s
  • Key: These instruments were commonly pitched in Eâ™ or F and were intended to play French horn parts in amateur or school bands.
