For sale is a Baldwin Scandinavian Natural Walnut 947 Acrosonic upright/console piano with a very stylish walnut cabinet, cane-style front and rear panels, tapered legs, brass-capped feet, and matching folding music stand. This is one of the more attractive Acrosonic cabinet designs, with a clean modernist look that fits well in a mid-century, studio, living room, or creative workspace setting.
The piano is visually complete and presents very well overall. The cabinet has warm walnut figuring, nicely shaped side supports, brass hardware, and the original Baldwin and Acrosonic badges.
Beyond being a playable Baldwin Acrosonic, this piano is also a striking piece of mid-century furniture. The warm walnut cabinet, cane-style speaker panels, tapered legs, brass-capped feet, and clean horizontal lines make it especially well suited to a room furnished with higher-end MCM pieces. It would sit naturally alongside designs in the spirit of Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Florence Knoll, Jens Risom, Paul McCobb, Eero Saarinen, Milo Baughman, Adrian Pearsall, or Broyhill Brasilia-era interiors. The look is more refined than the average upright piano: part instrument, part architectural furniture piece, and very much at home with walnut, cane, leather, brass, Danish modern, and American modernist decor.
The piano does show normal age and cosmetic wear, including scratches and finish wear on the top lid (especially on the top right side) small marks and scuffs in the wood, age/patina on the pedals and brass feet, and some discoloration/aging to the cane panels. No cat scratch damage or the like to the cane, which is largely intact.
Please review the photos carefully. In my opinion, the wear is consistent with age and does not detract much from the overall look, but this is a vintage used piano and not a restored museum piece.
The action and interior appear complete from visual inspection. All keys are present. I have not had the piano professionally tuned or serviced recently, so it should be expected to need tuning after moving, and possibly regulation or other normal piano service depending on the buyer’s needs.
It is being sold as a vintage acoustic instrument/furniture piece, with local inspection encouraged.
This would be a great choice for someone looking for a real Baldwin Acrosonic with a particularly good mid-century cabinet design, whether for home playing, studio use, décor, staging, or restoration.
Condition Good vintage condition. Cosmetic notes: Walnut cabinet presents well overall. Visible scratches and finish wear on the top lid. Small scuffs, marks, and signs of age throughout. Cane/rattan-style front panels intact, with some age/discoloration. Pedals and brass feet show tarnish/patina. Interior/action appears visually complete.
Piano has not been recently professionally serviced. Despite this, it is reasonably in-tune and playable, with good action and no sticking keys or other obvious issues Because pianos can shift during transport, buyer should expect to tune after moving.
Local pickup only, but I'm happy for you to have it picked up by movers of your choice. Buyer is responsible for arranging safe removal and transport. Professional piano movers are strongly recommended.
It is located near the front ground floor entrance of my house. The piano is located in Albuquerque, NM. Please bring proper help/equipment for pickup. I am happy to coordinate a pickup time with your movers.
