A vintage Musser 4.3 octave marimba with rosewood bars and custom made wooden cases.
This marimba was made c.1950 and is in very good condition for its age. There is some slight water damage to the accidental bars where the varnish has worn off and one key has a cup stain, but all of the keys play correctly and play in tune.
The previous owner of the marimba played professionally in Southern California for many years before she passed away, according to her family she played on some of the film sets in Los Angeles with this marimba as well.
Some other information we received from a professional percussionist:
“That is a Musser Band Marimba #210, circa 1950. It was the low A version of the Musser Century Marimba #100, which was 4 octaves. The 210 and the Musser Canterbury Marimba were the first 4.3 octave marimbas. The Canterbury was the flagship model, while the Band Marimba had a good quality keyboard, with a more basic frame. Except for the low A, the #100 and #210 are indistinguishable. However, the #100 sold very well, while very few 210s were made.”
