Nice ‘66 late example of the “1600”/“6400”/“00” Supreme amp In the thin edge cabinet. Very clean and recently serviced.

This amp came from the estate of Fender Artist Relations Manager Jeff Van Zandt, had a Fender brown/yellow label Eminence 10” ceramic in it. I tried a variety of speakers in it and found the best tone from a new Mojotone Anthem 10” Alnico. Perfect treble and mids response for the natural growl of the 6973 output section. Very Zep 1, like classic, but this amp is not hugely versatile and somewhat limited to those grinding/cutting tones with a Tele. It is not a Princeton. It’s like an AC-10’s drunken punk American cousin. Garage, punk, studio use for leads that cut. It’s too nice for me, I have a much rattier Gretsch version that is more my speed up next in the amp bench, and after using it inappropriately at church 20 times or so, I need you to give it a loving home.
Pros:

Death cap removed, quality 3-prong cord added with good strain relief in the chassis and the cab.

Recapped with the appropriate 20/10/10uf cap can from Hayseed Hamfest. Done in the factory style.

Out of spec resistors swapped and a few coupling caps too, output section cathode resistor changed for modern wall voltage.

Grid leak bias preamp has been changed to the 1624t cathode bias arrangement, this is the Zep 1 preamp and has a lower noise floor at idle. This has been done cleanly with nice parts, just a few resistors and capacitors changed around on the factory eyelet strip. I will supply a stock schematic for this amp and an annotated version with the changes for you or your tech to reference for future service.

Inputs 1&2 are like a 1624t treble and standard input with each feeding half of V1, the #3 input is both 1&2 running in parallel for about 30% more preamp gain, a thicker tone, very nice with a twangier Tele, just like jumpering a tweed amp’s inputs.

Cons:

Cab is vintage and has wear, bottom has like ancient paper stuck in a few places but removal will damage the thin tolex.

These are not super low noise amps even with humbuckers. I could rewire it to be much quieter, but it is still pretty original with reversible but desirable preamp changes, missing the original speaker. It’s sort of in its best actually useful state, and presents very nice and original, cleaner than most considering the age. If I were to make any other changes it would be to swap out the original Bakelite riveted in power tube 9-pin sockets for new micalex with retainers or shields as the 6973 sockets are looser than I like. If you are going to gig this amp you or your tech need to do this. Or me? Open to it with good communication.

Chassis faceplate has the normal deflection from the weight of the power transformer. Look closely at the pics and you’ll see it. Store it upside down for 60 years and it might flatten out!

Shipping:

Ships double boxed, inner carton floated in peanuts. The vintage tubes that came in it are all pretty nice and quiet, seems like the previous owner took nice care of it and had found a good nos set. These will be individually bubble wrapped in worn but cute non matching vintage tube boxes, all in a small box inside the cab, secure against movement and well padded. I care about this amp, shipping methods will reflect.

As with all vintage stuff from my shop, all sales are final, know exactly what these sound like and their uses and limitations before buying. My description is verbose and honest. There is a short video with a Tele on my IG reels @sundayhandwound.
