The Volca Beats launched in 2013 alongside the Volca Keys and Volca Bass as part of Korg's compact, affordable Volca series. It's a hybrid drum machine — six analog voices covering kick, snare, hi tom, lo tom, closed hat, and open hat, each with dedicated knobs for direct parameter control, plus four PCM voices for clap, claves, agogo, and crash. The sequencer is Electribe-style 16-step with eight memory patches, a stutter function for repeated triggers, Active Step for removing or inserting steps on the fly, and Step Jump for instant improvisation. Sync in and out let you chain multiple Volcas or lock to a Monotribe. MIDI in handles note entry and DAW sync. Built-in speaker and battery power mean it goes anywhere. A lot of rhythm machine for a small footprint and a small price — and the analog kick and hats in particular hold up well.
