The Martin D-28 is one of those acoustics that doesn’t need introduction. It has a classic dreadnought shape with a natural gloss Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides, giving it that instantly familiar look. Nothing about it is flashy, but everything about it feels intentional, grounded, and proven.

It’s built around that big, authoritative Martin voice, deep, wide bass response from the rosewood, and clear, singing highs from the spruce that stay defined even when you strum hard. The GE scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing helps the top breathe more freely, which gives the guitar a more open, vintage-style resonance with extra sustain and a slightly more “alive” feel under the pick. It can handle heavy strumming without getting muddy, but it also responds beautifully to lighter touch, where individual notes stay separated and articulate.

In the hands, it feels like a guitar that gets out of your way. The GE Modified Low Oval neck with high-performance taper is familiar without being bulky, and the ebony fingerboard keeps things smooth and responsive across the board. Bone nut and saddle details and open-gear nickel tuners add to the sense of traditional craftsmanship, but the real story is how naturally it plays and how consistently it delivers. Available at Haggerty’s Music, the D-28 is the guitar players reach for when they want a sound that just works, every time.
