The Epiphone 1942 Banner J-45 Reissue captures the spirit of one of the most iconic acoustic guitars ever made, bringing the feel and voice of the original “Workhorse” into a modern, accessible build. It has that unmistakable slope-shoulder warmth and dry, woody character that made early J-45s a staple on stages and recordings for generations.
The thermally aged solid spruce top paired with solid mahogany back and sides delivers a broken-in, vintage-inspired tone right out of the case, with a balanced response that sits beautifully under both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The V-shaped one-piece mahogany neck adds a touch of old-world feel in the hands, while the understated vintage sunburst and classic banner headstock tie everything back to its 1942 roots.
Details throughout feel thoughtfully true to the original without being overdone, from the open-back tuners to the tear drop pickguard and simple, elegant appointments. At the same time, the onboard L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC system brings it into the present, making it just as ready for the stage as it is for the living room or studio.
It’s a guitar that honors tradition without feeling stuck in it—warm, reliable, and built to be played day in and day out, just like the originals that earned the J-45 its name.
