Ernst Fliek The Rover Preamp + MS8 MIDI Switcher - 4 channels of a Rare Dutch Boutique Tube Preamp
The Ernst Fliek The Rover is a rare Dutch masterpiece, meticulously handcrafted for those who view tone as a pure art form. This specific unit is a piece of history—one of the very first built by Ernst and delivered to its original owner back in '92. Now a seasoned veteran of over 30 years, this "bad boy" recently returned to its creator for a full overhaul and custom mods to unlock its maximum performance and sonic flexibility. The invoice is included to document its pedigree.
With four fully independent channels and the ability to blend channels A, B, and C, you can layer unique sonic textures that make the possibilities truly limitless. Channel A delivers a crystalline clean with massive headroom, while Channel B brings that raw, punchy crunch essential to classic rock dynamics. Channel D is your high-gain lead monster—it roars with personality while keeping every note sharp and defined, even under heavy saturation.
The soul of this unit’s customization lives in Channel C. It has been reimagined as a "clean" channel with a twist: an EQ featuring variable frequency and gain for the mids. Keep the mid-gain moderate for a dynamic, touch-sensitive clean, or dim it to find a sweet, musical crunch. It stands brilliantly on its own but shines as a "wildcard" booster when mixed with other channels. Additionally, the VCA input has been updated, allowing you to sweep the master volume via an expression pedal just like the modern production models.
The included MS 8 MIDI switcher acts as your command center, capable of driving up to seventeen units at once. With eight programmable switches, it turns a complex rig into a seamless, plug-and-play experience. Together, these units form the heart of a world-class dream rig, delivering the elite tone and prestige found only in the most exclusive boutique guitar systems.
Note 1: A MIDI footswitch is included (MIDIPedal MP80); however, a 9V power supply is required for operation and is NOT INCLUDED.
Note 2: The MS 8 features an equalizer on its faceplate, but it is "deactivated." While some internal components are present, the circuit is incomplete (it could be a fun project foundation). To be crystal clear: only the MIDI interface is functional, and it handles that job masterfully.
