The Gibson Custom Shop 1936 Advanced Jumbo Murphy Lab Heavy Aged revives a rare pre-war classic with striking vintage tone, character, and craftsmanship — reimagined with era-authentic detailing and historic playability. Originally produced in extremely limited numbers between 1936 and 1939, the Advanced Jumbo was known for its robust voice and refined construction. Today, this historically significant model is reintroduced through the Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, offering a faithful recreation of one of the most coveted acoustics ever built.

At the heart of its rich tone lies a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top, paired with solid rosewood back and sides for a broad dynamic range and deep, resonant warmth. The hand-scalloped Advanced X-bracing, made from red spruce and set with hot hide glue, contributes to the guitar’s wide projection and incredible responsiveness. The Murphy Lab’s Heavy Aged nitrocellulose lacquer simulates the aesthetic of a well-worn, road-tested original, showcasing heavy lacquer checking, subtle armwear, and vintage patina across every inch.

The neck features the classic Historic AJ profile, crafted from mahogany with a compound dovetail joint and topped with a rosewood fingerboard adorned with mother-of-pearl Diamonds and Arrows inlays. Its 25.5" scale length and 12" radius ensure a powerful, articulate feel across all 19 frets. Other vintage-correct appointments include Waverly open-gear tuners, bone nut and saddle, and a rectangular open-slot bridge for maximum tonal transfer.
