Listed is a vintage Kenwood KT-5500 Tuner in working condition with exception of the AM band, which is totally dead. FM and FM Stereo sound great and have a very strong signal. I ran out of time to restore this one, so I'm listing it "AS IS" . (I have the matching KA-3500 integrated amp listed for sale as well.) The last pics show them together for reference only)
KT-5500 Tuner:
No real restoration performed with exception of new bulbs replacing the older burned ones. All other components are original.
- Cleaned controls with deOxit where applicable.
- FM and FM stereo work great. Tuner needle seems to line up well with the stations it is supposed to represent and the Center tuning meter centers with FM stereo reception. I recommend using 2 pieces of speaker wire to each of the 300 ohm terminals for good FM reception. An aftermarket antenna also works nicely.
- AM band is totally dead.
- The AM Ferrite antenna came off inside the unit, so I glued it back to where it is designed to be located.
- Faceplate top corners are slightly bent, and other cosmetic imperfections exist. Please see pics and make your own decision.
The pricing of this unit reflects the everything stated above. See pics. Unit is not in the best cosmetic condition, but still shows decently well.
It is recommended that you learn how to use DeOxit periodically to keep the controls clean and oxidation free . Of course, keeping in mind the disclaimer statement below.
